About The Role
Join Uber's Michelangelo Machine Learning Platform team as a Software Engineer II. This role is pivotal in building and managing robust distributed systems to empower Uber's product engineering and data science teams with cutting-edge AI technologies. You will work in a fast-paced environment alongside a team of skilled software and systems engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Develop: Envision, design, and deliver software and tools as part of a state-of-the-art ML platform team with a focus on generative AI features.
- System Architecture: Design system architecture, including management of upstream and downstream dependencies.
- Automation and Efficiency: Drive efficiencies in systems and processes through automation, including capacity planning, configuration management, performance tuning, monitoring, and root cause analysis.
- On-call Support: Participate in periodic on-call rotations and be available for critical issues.
Basic Qualifications
- BS or MS in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of software engineering experience.
- Experience in systems software engineering with a sound understanding of computer architecture and CS fundamentals.
- Proficiency in one of the following programming languages: Java, Scala, Go, Python, C/C++.
Preferred Qualifications
- Systematic problem-solving approach and knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis.
- Experience in building and managing distributed systems.
- Familiarity with techniques to increase the accuracy of generative AI applications, including prompt engineering, RAG, and function calling.
- Understanding of generative AI agentic concepts and frameworks.
- Open source contributions are a plus.
Work Environment
Offices are central to collaboration and Uber's cultural identity. Employees are expected to spend at least half of their work time in their assigned office unless formally approved to work fully remotely. For certain roles, such as those based at green-light hubs, employees are expected to be in-office 100% of the time.
Compensation
- Salary Range: €158,000 - €175,500 per year.
- Additional Compensation: Eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program and may be offered an equity award.
