Job Overview
Join Google DeepMind as a Research Engineer in the Product team, where you will apply cutting-edge models and research to solve high-impact real-world problems. This role involves rapid prototyping, designing, and running experiments to evaluate opportunities, and transitioning research into production. You will work closely with a diverse team of engineers, researchers, product managers, and program managers to create transformative machine learning-enabled product experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with various teams across Google/Alphabet to deploy advanced machine learning algorithms.
- Rapidly prototype initial concepts and design experiments to evaluate opportunities.
- Work on real-world problems and see your work make a difference.
- Be part of a small project team led by Research Engineers, with potential partnerships with research scientists.
- Focus on areas such as Audio Generation/Understanding, Multimodal Understanding, Multitask Learning, Generative Media, and Affective Computing.
Required Skills and Experience
- BSc, MSc, or PhD/DPhil in computer science, mathematics, applied statistics, machine learning, or similar.
- Proven knowledge and experience in Python, C++, and/or Java.
- Knowledge of machine learning and statistics.
- Experience with TensorFlow or similar ML frameworks (e.g., JAX) is highly desirable.
- Recent experience conducting applied research to improve the quality and efficiency of large transformer-based models.
- Experience fine-tuning large models (e.g., supervised, RLHF).
- Experience applying and productionizing state-of-the-art large audiovisual, language, and multimodal research.
- Software engineering experience and experience working on large-scale ML projects is highly desirable.
- Proven experience working in industry, from proof-of-concept through to implementation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Experience in applying experimental ideas to applied problems.
- Cross-functional collaboration experience.
- Prior experience collaborating with researchers and product teams.

Location
This position is based in New York, NY, with hybrid work options available. We are also open to hiring in Mountain View, CA, Cambridge, MA, San Francisco, CA, Los Angeles, CA, and London, England.
