The ChatGPT Research Acceleration team at OpenAI collaborates closely with research, engineering, product, and design teams to enhance model improvements for users. The team is responsible for building systems and tools that enable researchers and engineers to quickly, safely, and efficiently deploy new models.
About The Role
OpenAI is seeking an experienced Tech Lead Manager (TLM) to lead a team within the ChatGPT Research Acceleration group. The primary goal is to boost research productivity across OpenAI, thereby accelerating progress towards Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Enhancing tooling will significantly improve the throughput of testing new ideas.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a diverse, inclusive, and high-performing engineering team.
- Develop systems and tools that increase research deployment velocity.
- Contribute significantly to the codebase.
- Ensure projects are on track, team resources are utilized effectively, and core engineering needs are continuously addressed.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of industry experience, with at least 2 years in engineering management.
- Proven experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure reliability and scalability in the design and development of new systems and tools.
- Ability to own important problems end-to-end, with strong delegation skills.
- Excitement for hands-on technical work and leading technical teams to peak performance.
- Ability to foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture that encourages radical candor and challenges groupthink.
- A humble attitude, eagerness to assist colleagues, and a commitment to team success.
- Bonus: Understanding of AI/ML workloads.
Location
This role is based in OpenAI's San Francisco office, with a hybrid work model requiring 3 days in the office per week. Relocation assistance is available for new employees.
