About the Role

As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will be part of the Amazon Account Integrity team, which focuses on protecting customer accounts from unauthorized access. Your primary responsibility will be to develop advanced algorithmic systems that manage risk and ensure customer trust. You will work on analyzing and modeling large datasets to create state-of-the-art algorithms that solve real-world problems.

Key Responsibilities

• Utilize statistical and machine learning techniques to develop scalable risk management systems.
• Analyze and interpret large volumes of Amazon’s historical business data to identify specific risk instances or broader trends.
• Design, develop, and evaluate innovative models for risk management.
• Collaborate with software engineering teams to implement real-time models and create new features.
• Work closely with operations staff to optimize risk management processes.
• Establish scalable, efficient, and automated processes for large-scale data analyses, model development, validation, and implementation.
• Track business activities and provide clear, compelling management reports regularly.
• Research and implement novel machine learning and statistical approaches.

Basic Qualifications

• PhD, or Master's degree with 4+ years of experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, or Python.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in predictive modeling and large data analysis.
• Experience in algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, and high-performance computing.
• Strong communication and data presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• A PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a highly quantitative field.
• 3+ years of industry experience in predictive modeling and large data analysis.
• Strong skills in Python/Spark (or similar scripting language), Java/C++, and SQL.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to dive deep into complex issues.
• Strong communication, writing, and data presentation skills.
