About the Role
ProbablyMonsters is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Battle Barge Team. This role is pivotal in creating boundless adventures that bring people together through exceptional game experiences. You will be part of a team that values collaboration and support, working on an unannounced, original AAA Co-op RPG.
Who You Are
You are a developer who enjoys building things quickly without sacrificing quality. You thrive in enabling multiplayer experiences and understand the networking requirements and challenges involved. You are adept at designing for horizontal scaling in the application layer and are comfortable diagnosing and fixing race conditions in multi-threaded and distributed systems. Your belief in good software design correlates with testability, and you are always ready to advocate for best practices.
What You Will Do
- Design and implement a scalable and secure game server architecture.
- Integrate game client and server with backend service APIs or SDKs.
- Identify and eliminate scalability bottlenecks and security flaws in networked message flows.
- Implement backend/server-side features as required by gameplay needs.
- Improve productivity and stability of the code base through writing unit and integration tests.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
- 4-5 years of experience in backend development, preferably in the gaming industry.
- Proficiency in C++ and experience with Unreal Engine, C#, Python, and/or JavaScript (TypeScript).
- Knowledge of Object-Oriented design patterns and a commitment to unit testing.
Preferred Skills
- Experience building games in a cross-discipline team environment.
- Experience running a live service.
