About the Role
As a Senior Data Engineer at Amazon, you will be at the forefront of solving complex data problems and creating impactful solutions that cater to our global customer base. This role involves setting the technical strategy for the team, leading complex technical initiatives, and mentoring junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Set the technical strategy for the team.
- Lead complex technical initiatives within the team.
- Explore technical needs and bring solutions to the table.
- Gather business and functional requirements and translate these requirements into robust, scalable, operable solutions with a flexible and adaptable data architecture.
- Assist in developing project plans and commitments, and then deliver consistently against those commitments.
- Build good working relationships within the team by communicating clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Continuously optimize solutions to improve overall platform performance, availability, and fault tolerance.
- Drive operational excellence through a metrics-driven approach.
- Understand customer pain points, build solutions to make large and/or complex data more accessible, understandable, and usable by applications and teams.
- Mentor and lead developers by cultivating curiosity, deep technical understanding through collaboration, code reviews, and leading by example.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- 7+ years of data engineering experience.
- Proficient in data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelines.
- Skilled in SQL and at least one modern scripting or programming language (Python, Java, Scala, NodeJS).
- Experience with data manipulation and visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
- Preferred experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark, and EMR.
- Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring other engineers for best practices on data engineering.
