About the Role
As a Senior Data Engineer at Amazon, you will be at the forefront of solving complex data problems and creating impactful solutions that cater to a global audience. This role involves setting the technical strategy for the team, leading complex technical initiatives, and mentoring team members to foster an environment of growth and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Set the technical strategy for the team.
- Lead complex technical initiatives within the team.
- Explore technical needs and bring solutions to the table.
- Gather business and functional requirements and translate these requirements into robust, scalable, operable solutions with a flexible and adaptable data architecture.
- Assist in developing project plans and commitments, and then deliver consistently against those commitments.
- Build good working relationships within the team by communicating clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Continuously optimize solutions to improve overall platform performance, availability, and fault tolerance.
- Drive operational excellence through a metrics-driven approach.
- Understand customer pain points, build solutions to make large and/or complex data more accessible, understandable, and usable by applications and teams.
- Mentor and lead developers by cultivating curiosity, deep technical understanding through collaboration, code reviews, and leading by example.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- 7+ years of data engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of SQL and demonstrated ability to apply SQL to a wide variety of business requirements.
- Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS.
- Experience with data manipulation and visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, etc.
- Strong knowledge in data warehousing concepts and data platforms and architecture.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR.
- Experience operating large data warehouses.
- Experience providing technical leadership on high-impact cross-functional technical projects.
