Software Engineer - Navigation

Are you a Software Engineer with a passion for developing navigation software for innovative Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs)? Join our team at VDL Automated Vehicles and play a central role in the development and continuous improvement of our navigation software for heavy-duty outdoor AGVs.

About the Role

As a Software Engineer in our Navigation team, you will be part of a growing engineering department consisting of approximately 20 enthusiastic colleagues. Our software team operates in an Agile environment, working in two Scrum teams: the Vehicle Control Unit team and the Navigation team. You will be involved in developing new features and improvements for our navigation software, as well as testing the software on our vehicles at our test site in Breda. This close integration of development, production, and testing ensures a strong connection with the product.

Key Responsibilities

Develop new functions, improvements, and analyses related to navigation topics such as:
- Localization
- Path planning
- Control
- Environment perception
- Performance monitoring and diagnostics
Actively participate in standups, backlog refinements, planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
Collaborate with the team to continuously improve our development processes to ensure quality, efficiency, and standardization.
Define test cases, create test plans, and support (release) test activities.

Your Profile

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Control Systems, Computer Science, Automotive, Mechatronics, or a related field.
At least 3 years of experience in a similar role.
Proficiency in programming languages such as MATLAB/Simulink, C, C++, and Python.
Experience with Agile software development processes.
Familiarity with software development tools like GIT, BitBucket, JIRA, and Docker.
Affinity with automated/autonomous vehicles.
Proficient in English, both spoken and written.
Reside within a 50 km radius of Breda.
