Backend Developer (Node.js)

Introduction

Join IBM’s watsonx Orchestrate team as a Backend Developer, where you will revolutionize digital labor by developing and deploying the latest conversational AI technology. This role is crucial in maintaining and enhancing our state-of-the-art, secure, and scalable application infrastructure, focusing on data confidentiality, performance, and security.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Backend Developer, you will be part of the AI assistant Runtime team, responsible for implementing our public APIs and the AI backend systems that are the heart of watsonx Orchestrate. Your tasks will include collaborating with other development teams to understand their API and data needs and working with Site Reliability Engineers (SRE) and operations teams to enhance overall scalability, performance, and reliability.

Although this role primarily focuses on backend technologies, having knowledge and experience with frontend technologies such as React.js will be beneficial. You will prioritize customer and business requirements, work with data scientists, user experience designers, and product managers to understand requirements and create technical architectures. Your responsibilities will span the entire lifecycle of your services, from gathering requirements and design to development, continuous integration/deployment, and support operations.

Strategic thinking is essential to develop long-term architectural roadmaps while delivering new features incrementally.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• Professional backend development experience with Node.js in an enterprise environment
• Experience with Postgres
• Proven track record in designing and developing enterprise applications
• Proficiency in developing APIs

Preferred Technical And Professional Expertise

• Experience with Kubernetes and Openshift
• Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and tools such as Jenkins
• Experience with express.js

Location Statement
