Backend Software Engineer

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Backend Software Engineer to join our dynamic team in Amsterdam. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable and efficient backend systems. You will work closely with front-end developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement server-side logic, ensuring high performance and responsiveness.
• Develop RESTful APIs to support front-end functionality and third-party integrations.
• Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability.
• Collaborate with front-end developers to integrate user-facing elements.
• Write clean, maintainable code and conduct code reviews.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems.
• Ensure security and data protection protocols are implemented.
• Participate in the entire application lifecycle, focusing on coding and debugging.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience as a Backend Developer or similar role.
• Proficiency in server-side languages such as Python, Java, Ruby, or Node.js.
• Experience with database technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with microservices architecture.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with agile development methodologies.

Daily Job Description

• Check emails and chats for updates since you are working with a global team of engineers.
• Update Dr. Diamond at least once each 24 period as to progress on current assignment.
• Continue till completion any current programming assignments.
• Check daily any backlog assignments.
• Run appropriate unit tests on new code.
• Notify Dr. Diamond when code assignments are appropriate for Quality Assurance to test.
• Synch daily with the corresponding front or backend team member.
• Record, for appropriate time sheets, the hours worked each day.
• Report daily any blockers of progress.
