Director of Responsible AI
Overview
Kirkland & Ellis, one of the world’s leading law firms, is seeking a Director of Responsible AI to join our team in Chicago, Illinois. This role is pivotal in orchestrating a new era of innovation at the intersection of technology and law. Reporting to the Chief Innovation Officer, the Director will drive advancements in AI while ensuring ethical practices are upheld across the firm.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive Responsible AI approach that aligns with the firm’s AI Strategy and its mission and values.
- Collaborate with the Director of Applied AI and Data Science to lead agile development processes, ensuring a risk-baked-in approach to AI use and model development.
- Act as a translator, advising key stakeholders on the latest developments in responsible AI approaches.
- Serve as an internal evangelist of Kirkland & Ellis’s commitment to innovation.
- Lead change management efforts across all phases of projects and initiatives.
Policy Development
- Develop and maintain policies, guidelines, and documentation for the responsible development and deployment of AI tools.
- Collaborate with security, risk, and IT counterparts to revise the review process for AI/GenAI implementation.
- Review proposed and existing partnerships and capabilities, documenting responsible AI practices.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a liaison for AI-related inquiries and initiatives, engaging with clients and external parties to promote responsible practices.
- Interface with senior stakeholders regarding client inquiries on Responsible AI.
Training and Education
- Manage and update the AI Playbook, ensuring it reflects current best practices and guidelines.
- Design and implement training programs for staff and clients on the principles of Responsible AI.
- Collaborate with Learning and Development and Innovation team members on AI training.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Establish metrics to evaluate the impact of AI initiatives, continuously monitoring AI systems for adherence to ethical standards.
- Stay abreast of the latest trends, technologies, and regulations in AI.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Preferred JD or other risk-related background.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a legal or technology-focused role, with a strong background in AI implementation and ethics.
- In-depth understanding of AI technologies, ethical implications, legal frameworks, and best practices in Responsible AI.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
- Proven change management skills.
