Job Overview

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is seeking an experienced Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Engineer to join our Information Technology department. This role is based in Washington, DC, with hybrid work capabilities. The AI/ML Engineer will report to the Senior Manager of Application Development and will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying AI/ML models and Generative AI solutions to enhance our legal and business services operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and Implement AI/ML Models: Design and deploy models to analyze complex legal data streams and enhance the firm's legal analytics, research, and predictive modeling capabilities.
• Collaborate with Legal Experts: Work closely with legal professionals to translate legal requirements into technical specifications for AI/ML tools.
• Stay Updated with AI/ML Advancements: Keep abreast of the latest developments in AI/ML technology and apply them to legal applications.
• Ensure Security and Compliance: Maintain the security and compliance of AI systems, especially concerning sensitive legal data.
• Optimize Machine Learning Solutions: Build, maintain, and optimize machine learning solutions to ensure they perform as expected in production environments.
• Integrate Machine Learning into Business Operations: Work with team members to streamline processes by automating the creation, training, deployment, and updating of machine learning models.
• Develop RESTful API Endpoints: Collaborate with software developers to design and develop API endpoints for AI/ML-based data models.
• Establish CI/CD Pipelines: Set up continuous integration and deployment pipelines for machine learning projects to facilitate rapid and reliable model updates.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in AI/ML Frameworks: Experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, HuggingFace, and other AI/ML libraries.
• Cloud Services Experience: Familiarity with Azure, AWS, or GCP for securing and deploying ML models.
• Programming Skills: Proficient in Python, R, or C#, with a focus on writing scalable code for AI/ML applications.
• Containerization and Orchestration: Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Data Management Skills: Strong understanding of data structures, data modeling, and software architecture.
• MLOps Tools: Knowledge of MLOps tools and platforms to automate and streamline ML workflows.
• Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field preferred.
• Legal Sector Experience: Experience in the legal sector is advantageous but not required.

Salary and Benefits

The base salary range for this position in Washington, DC is €130,000 to €160,000 per year. Additional benefits include medical, vision, and dental insurance, 401(k), paid parental leave, child care support, commuter benefits, disability insurance, and student loan assistance.
