Responsibilities
As a Frontend Software Engineer working on ESPN products, you will join a team of strong, collaborative engineers that solve exciting technical tasks daily, such as scaling technology for fans across the globe, real-time updating during live events, supporting international languages and sports, and building components that are accessible for all. In this role, you will build features that will have an impact across ESPN’s dynamic pages, including game pages, scoreboards, articles, and live streaming. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about solving JavaScript data manipulation problems. Beyond performing daily responsibilities working on our team, you will have opportunities to contribute innovative ideas for our product and learn more about the services that allow ESPN.com to scale and perform.
What You Will Do
- Build components and modules that are used by millions of fans around the world.
- Bring our UI to life by connecting components to live APIs.
- Partner with other engineering teams to solve problems while considering performance, scalability, caching, resiliency, and flexibility for expanding product requirements.
- Work with native teams to develop seamless webview integrations within the ESPN app.
- Support live event coverage and triage issues that come in to ensure an optimal experience for our global audience.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Familiarity with frontend web development technologies and principles.
- Knowledge of JavaScript and JS frameworks.
- Effective communicator, collaborator, and teammate.
- Able to multi-task and prioritize as needed.
- Willingness to quickly learn new concepts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with React and NodeJS.
- Basic understanding of AWS services (e.g., Cloudwatch, EC2, S3, etc).
- Experience with task automation (Webpack) and CSS Preprocessors (PostCSS, Less, Sass).
- Experience using HTML / CSS.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.
Compensation
The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA and Bristol, CT is $93,400 to $125,200 per year and in NY, NY is $98,000 to $131,300 per year based on a 40 hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
