Why This Role?
As a Member of Technical Staff, you will have the opportunity to design and implement novel research ideas, ship state-of-the-art models to production, and maintain deep connections to academia. At Cohere, we do not strongly delineate between engineering and research, allowing you to contribute to both writing production code and conducting research based on your interests and organizational needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and scale AI systems to serve our users.
- Research, implement, and experiment with ideas on our supercomputer and data infrastructure.
- Collaborate with top researchers, engineers, and annotators in the field.
- Drive agent development in Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), tool use, and language agents.
- Work with internal annotators to create and evaluate data for post-training large language models (LLMs), ensuring quality and performance.
What We Are Looking For
- Extremely strong software engineering skills.
- Proficiency in Python and related ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, TF-Serving, JAX, and XLA/MLIR.
- Deep experience in AI data evaluation and management.
- Strong track record of creating and curating large-scale datasets.
- Experience using large-scale distributed training strategies.
- Familiarity with autoregressive sequence models, such as Transformers.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with human annotators and cross-functional teams.
- Publications in top-tier venues (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AIStats, MLSys, JMLR, AAAI, Nature, COLING, ACL, EMNLP).

Location
This role is hybrid, with the option to work from our offices in Toronto, London, San Francisco, and New York, or remotely.
