Join Our Team as a Senior Backend PHP Developer
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Backend PHP Developer to join our MPayment team, part of the larger Checkout unit. This role can be based onsite in Hamburg or remotely within the EU.
About the Role
The MPayment team is crucial to our operations, responsible for integrating various Payment Service Providers (PSPs) into our ecosystem. This ensures a seamless, error-free, and efficient experience for our customers. As part of the Checkout unit, you will oversee order placement and processing steps.
Our in-house developed eCommerce infrastructure is offered to online merchants as a licensed product. Your main responsibility will be to provide an excellent Checkout-as-a-Service experience to over 200 online stores across European markets, with expansion into the UK and North America.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate business problems into technical solutions and work with the team to design, plan, and deliver these solutions.
- Develop a scalable software architecture for our API written in PHP.
- Embrace modern agile software development methodologies and extreme programming practices such as TDD and pair programming.
- Use an extensive tech stack, selecting the right tools for the right tasks.
- Ensure teamwork results are technically sound and meet expectations.
Who You Are
- Hands-on experience with Laravel or Symfony.
- Experience in developing synchronous APIs, with asynchronous experience being a plus.
- Proficient in AWS, Terraform, MySQL, Redis, or equivalent technologies.
- Capable of taking ownership of your work, including automated testing, deployment, monitoring, and incident response.
- Self-motivated, responsible, passionate, and eager to learn.
- Able to perform complex technical tasks independently with minimal guidance.

- Experience in high volume, high load environments.
- Experience with multiple downstream and upstream dependencies.
- Experience with PSP integration and designing/testing complex integrations.
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS solutions.
