Senior Simulation Engineer
AmazonJob Description
As a Senior Simulation Engineer at Amazon, you will join a dynamic team dedicated to designing, developing, and deploying simulations and digital twins for our fulfillment and sort centers across the EU network. This role is perfect for an analytical problem solver who thrives on diving into data from various business units, enjoys investigations and algorithms, and can effectively interface between scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Simulation Development: Develop simulation models and conduct experimentation on cutting-edge designs for our fulfillment and sort centers’ truck yards. Apply methodologies for complex use cases to drive innovation.
- Operational Requirements: Gather operational business requirements for truck yards and translate these into process-flow simulation logic or geo-spatial simulations.
- Engineering Solutions: Design and develop engineering solutions via simulation models for complex yard and material handling challenges, considering human/equipment interactions.
- Data Pipelines: Identify, design, and create data pipelines to feed simulations with input data; apply statistical analyses to create robust data for stochastic processes.
- Project Management: Lead and coordinate simulation efforts for process improvements, arriving at optimal solutions through equipment specification, material flow, process design, ergonomics, and site layout.
- Coding and Deployment: Code scripts (Java) to connect simulations (AnyLogic) with external sources and algorithms; deploy and host simulations in the cloud (e.g., AnyLogic Cloud).
- Performance Analysis: Identify and define key performance indicators (KPI); work closely with internal subject matter experts to analyze simulation results.
- Documentation: Develop, document, and update simulation standards, including standard results reports.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial/Mechanical/Process Engineering or a Master’s Degree in a highly quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, Machine Learning, Operational Research, Statistics, Mathematics).
- Demonstrable simulation development experience with AnyLogic and AnyLogic Cloud.
- Experience developing both agent-based and discrete-event simulations.
- Proficiency in Java coding and its integration with AnyLogic.
- Cross-functional project management experience, preferably in process improvements initiatives.
- Experience with statistical modeling and statistical-analysis tools (e.g., Minitab).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD in Statistics, Applied Math, Operations Research, Economics, or a related quantitative field with working experience as a Data or Research Scientist.
- Extensive simulation development experience with AnyLogic and AnyLogic Cloud.
- Ability to construct data pipelines and build SQL queries.
- Experience with other simulation software (e.g., FlexSim).
- Python coding experience.
- Experience in process improvement, six-sigma & lean projects.
- Experience building digital twins.
- Experience with BI/data visualization in QuickSight.
- Experience with machine learning and data mining.
- Experience with AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of truck and yard management environments.
