Overview
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our Managed Operations team in Berlin, Germany. This role is pivotal in the launch and management of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), a significant development in utility computing. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will lead operations and development teams to deliver high-availability AWS services such as EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, specifically for EU customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the launch of the ESC in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams.
- Influence the evolution of AWS services and technology.
- Enhance day-to-day operations, ensuring improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC.
- Participate in "on-call" rotations to resolve incidents occurring out-of-hours.
- Deliver scalable services and ensure a high-availability experience for EU customers.
About AWS Utility Computing (UC)
AWS UC provides product innovations from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) to new product innovations. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS.
Basic Qualifications
- 9+ years of systems engineering experience, working with hardware, software, networking, and operating systems.
- Proficient in leading the creation, revision, and/or improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs).
- Proficient in scripting processes in languages such as Bash, Python, or Ruby.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and anticipating problems affecting software systems' performance, reliability, or availability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working cross-organizationally and leading strategic team efforts.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers.
- Experience in performance tuning software applications and optimizing fleet utilization.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible).
