Position Overview

Join the Boating Intelligence (BI) Design Lab at Brunswick Corporation as a Software Engineering Intern. This role is perfect for those passionate about technology and innovation in the recreational boating industry. You will be part of a cutting-edge R&D team, contributing to the development of web and mobile applications that enhance the boating experience for our customers.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze and Prototype Solutions: Work on various problems and tasks within the recreational boating space, from concept ideation to prototyping and testing applications on hardware.
Software Development: Collaborate with the development team to design, build, and refine software solutions, focusing on web and app development.
Programming: Utilize Java/Kotlin, JavaScript, or Python to develop consumer-facing applications. Experience with web/app development frameworks is essential.
Android Development: Develop Android-based applications and test them on Android platform-based devices.
User Interface Design: Create app layouts and user interfaces using standard coding best practices.
Data Integration: Integrate data from various back-end services and databases.

Required Qualifications

Permanent US Work authorization.
Currently enrolled as a Freshman to Junior in Computer Science or Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana.
Prior experience in Software Engineering or Web/App development (industry, internship, or project experience).
Proficiency in Java/Kotlin and JavaScript (and/or Python).
Strong understanding of Software Engineering principles and experience with Linux.
Experience with frameworks such as React, React Native, or Android Studio.

Preferred Qualifications

Pursuing a Master’s in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
Prior professional experience, including leadership roles, internships, or related RSOs.
Professional experience developing in frameworks such as React, React Native, or Android Studio.

Working Conditions

Learning Opportunities: Gain hands-on experience in a professional setting, working alongside experienced professionals.
Project Work: Engage in specific projects or tasks that contribute to the organization’s goals.
Hours: Interns must work at least 8 hours in person at the lab each week during the fall and spring terms, with a maximum of 20 hours. During summer, interns are expected to work 40 hours in person at the lab each week.
Feedback and Performance Reviews: Receive feedback and performance reviews throughout your assignment.
