Job Overview
Scale AI is seeking a Manager, Machine Learning Research Engineer to lead our Generative AI team. This role is pivotal in managing and guiding a team of talented researchers and engineers focused on leveraging large language models (LLMs) and generative models to accelerate our customers' AI initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of researchers and engineers, providing technical leadership and guidance.
- AI Roadmap Execution: Develop and execute an AI roadmap to advance generative AI initiatives.
- Model Integration: Integrate machine learning into human-in-the-loop systems to ensure high-quality data labeling.
- Product Development: Collaborate with product and research teams to enhance current and future product lines.
- Data Handling: Work with massive datasets to develop and fine-tune models for specific applications.
- Customer Collaboration: Engage with customers and research groups to align on goals and solutions.
- Platform Development: Build a scalable ML platform for automated model retraining and evaluation.
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience: 7+ years in LLM, deep learning, reinforcement learning, or NLP in a production environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and cloud technologies (AWS or GCP).
- MLOps: Experience in automating model training and evaluation.
- Educational Background: Degree in computer science or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Degree: Graduate degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or AI.
- Publications: Experience in publishing research in relevant fields.
- Optimization Techniques: Expertise in model optimization for training and inference.

Location
This position is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and requires commuting to the office 1-2 times weekly.
Salary
The base salary range for this full-time position is €240,000—€300,000 annually, with potential equity compensation.
