Role Overview

As a Senior Backend Engineer in the Moderation team, you will play a pivotal role in driving technical and product strategy, operations, architecture, and execution for one of the largest sites in the world. This is a high-impact role where you will work cross-functionally with product, design, and other engineering counterparts to execute on product and business strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to build novel products and features that our users will love.
  • Contribute to the full development cycle: technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
  • Review code and design documents, provide feedback on product specifications and mocks.
  • Set and define standards to improve developer workflows, recommend best practices, and mentor engineers on the team.
  • Continuously learn and improve your technical and non-technical abilities.

Who You Are

  • You have 4+ years of software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages such as Go, Python, Rust, Ruby, or Java.
  • You have experience with GraphQL, REST, HTTP, Thrift, or gRPC basics, and can design and implement maintainable APIs.
  • You are familiar with databases like Postgres, Cassandra, Memcached, Redis, and tools such as Kubernetes, AWS, and Nginx.
  • You possess strong organizational skills, can prioritize tasks, and keep projects on schedule.
  • You hold a BS degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field, or have equivalent practical experience.
  • You have an entrepreneurial spirit, are self-directed, innovative, and thrive in fast-paced environments.
  • You have excellent communication skills and can collaborate effectively in a fully remote environment.

Pay Transparency

The base pay range for this position is $164,200—$229,900 USD. In addition to base salary, this job is eligible to receive equity in the form of restricted stock units. Reddit offers a wide range of benefits to U.S.-based employees, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) program with employer match, generous time off for vacation, and parental leave.
