Senior Software Engineer - Ads Bidding & Pacing

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Ads Bidding and Pacing team at Reddit, you will play a crucial role in developing and enhancing sophisticated optimization systems. You will work closely with technical leaders to ensure that our systems are robust and scalable. Your responsibilities will include contributing to technical design, working across the ad serving stack to create new functionalities, and ensuring the long-term maintainability of our codebases.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and Close Gaps: Identify and close infrastructural and operational gaps in our automated bidding products and pacing systems.
• Data Processing: Build systems capable of ingesting and processing data at the scale of the entire marketplace.
• Collaboration: Work closely with product and engineering teams to ensure that improvements to bidding and pacing systems align with the business vision for the marketplace.
• Experimentation: Design and conduct rigorous A/B experiments to evaluate the business impact of new bid and budget optimization algorithms.
• Code and Analysis: Write maintainable code and conduct rigorous analyses to contribute data-driven insights to projects.

Who You Are

• Experience: You have relevant experience working in ads and marketplace systems, and optimizing an ads marketplace.
• Education: MS or PhD degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent experience is preferred.
• Technical Skills: 4+ years of industry experience building systems that ingest and process data in real-time using frameworks like Flink, Spark Streaming, Kinesis, and Kafka.
• Programming Languages: Experience with general-use programming languages such as Scala, Go, and Java.
• Big Data: Comfortable with distributed systems, big data (Petabyte scale), and data-intensive systems.
• Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work effectively with product managers, data scientists, and other stakeholders.
• Ownership: Strong ownership mentality and independence, with a desire to contribute to roadmap development.
