About the Role
Mercury is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Personal Banking team. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of Mercury Personal, a premium consumer banking service. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will work closely with designers, product leaders, and other engineers to build new features and port existing business banking features to Mercury Personal.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Ownership: Take a strong sense of ownership and actively seek responsibility. You will self-organize on small to medium projects and help shape the future of Mercury Personal.
- Collaboration: Work closely with designers, product leaders, and other engineers to build new features for Mercury Personal.
- Architectural Decisions: Make architectural decisions and see the impact of those decisions over time. You should be able to clearly articulate your technical opinions and lay out tradeoffs.
- Product Development: Be passionately product-minded and have experience building and shipping new products.
- Autonomy and Initiative: Drive discussions in areas with ambiguous ownership, approach them with empathy, and delight in getting outcomes. You will have a lot of autonomy and are expected to seek out ways to have an impact.
Ideal Candidate
- Experience: 4+ years of software development experience, with knowledge of or excitement to learn Haskell.
- Technical Skills: Experience in back-end web development, databases, and software development.
- Product Mindset: Passionate about building and shipping new products.
- Communication: Ability to clearly articulate technical opinions and lay out tradeoffs.
- Team Player: Ridiculously helpful, taking initiative to make your coworkers’ lives easier.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary: Competitive salary range of €203,100 - €238,900 for US employees.
- Equity: Stock options available.
- Work Environment: Hybrid work environment, allowing for both on-site and off-site work.
