About the Role

Join PayPal's Merchant Engineering team as a Senior Front-end Engineer. Our mission is to simplify commerce by providing a one-stop payment platform for all customer segments. We are the customer-facing teams within Product and Platform Engineering, building the touchpoints that interact with our customers across all stacks (PayPal, Braintree, and Hyperwallet), across all channels (online and in-store, web and mobile) for our Merchants.

Responsibilities

• Develop efficient, elegant, clean, reusable code with no unnecessary complication or abstraction.
• Exhibit ownership and deliver quality solutions on schedule.
• Create and review well-articulated, detailed design documents.
• Design, develop, test, and deploy robust software solutions in a Linux/Unix environment, ensuring high performance, security, and scalability.
• Participate in complex architectural discussions that involve multiple systems.
• Identify any product/functionality gaps and collaborate with internal product and technology teams to define the necessary development to support solution delivery.
• Drive operational excellence and proactively respond to identifying and troubleshooting integration or technical issues.
• Challenge the status quo when needed.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in computer science or an equivalent combination of technical education and work experience.
• 3+ years’ experience building software or web applications with object-oriented or functional programming languages.
• Expert knowledge in React JS fundamentals, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Node.js, and Express.js.
• Good knowledge of testing frameworks and deployment techniques.
• Hands-on experience in leveraging languages like TypeScript for developing GraphQL APIs.
• Intermediate level understanding of Java, Spring, REST API, and Messaging Architectures like ActiveMQ/Kafka.
• Deep understanding of and extensive experience applying advanced object-oriented design and development principles.
• Experience applying software design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
• Strong debugging and problem resolution skills.
• Focus on test-driven development and automation.
• Experience developing automated unit, integration, and functional tests.
• Experience in performance aspects like caching, code splitting, lazy loading, pagination, etc., and security aspects like authentication, CORS, XSS.
• Good communication skills.

Compensation

The U.S. national annual pay range for this role is $72,700 to $176,000. Actual compensation is based on various factors including but not limited to work location, and relevant skills and experience.
