Job Description
Overview
As an Associate Web Engineer at PayPal, you will be responsible for writing excellent code that powers experiences customers will directly use. You will work with a variety of languages including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript, and frameworks such as React and GraphQL. Your role will involve more than just writing code; you will have the opportunity to provide input on coding processes, tools, and philosophies.
Responsibilities
- Own the implementation of a module, application, or product.
- Design, develop, test, and deploy robust software solutions to the web, ensuring high performance, security, and scalability.
- Participate in architectural discussions involving multiple systems.
- Identify product or functionality gaps and collaborate with internal product and technology teams to define necessary development to support solution delivery.
- Drive operational excellence and proactively respond to integration or technical issues.
- Retrospect on the status quo and help the team learn and improve.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science or an equivalent combination of technical education and work experience.
- Experience building software or web applications with object-oriented or functional programming languages.
- Strong knowledge in React fundamentals, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Node.js, and Next.js.
- Good knowledge of testing methodologies and deployment techniques.
- Hands-on experience with GraphQL.
- Understanding of Java, Spring, REST API, and messaging architectures like ActiveMQ/Kafka (experience in development is a plus).
- Experience applying software design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong debugging and problem resolution skills.
- Experience collaborating to define key requirements and translating them into process and technical solutions.
- Experience developing automated unit, integration, and/or functional tests.
- Awareness of performance concepts and the tradeoffs of applying them, such as progressive web loading, lazy loading, and caching.

Work Environment
PayPal's balanced hybrid work model offers 3 days in the office for effective in-person collaboration and 2 days at your choice of either the PayPal office or your home workspace, ensuring that you equally have the benefits and conveniences of both locations.
Salary
The U.S. national annual pay range for this role is $72,700 to $176,000.
