Join Our Team as a Senior Software Engineer

23andMe’s Core Engineering team is seeking a talented Senior Software Engineer to join our Ancestry team. This team is responsible for building, enhancing, and maintaining features that provide users with a deeper understanding of their genetic heritage, connect them with relatives, and offer fascinating visualizations into their ancestral roots.

What You'll Do

• Learn and Adapt: Quickly familiarize yourself with our existing infrastructure and processes for Ancestry and the consumer-facing product, including AWS, Python (Django), and JavaScript (React).
• Deliver Quality Code: Produce secure, high-quality, and testable code on time.
• Collaborate: Work closely with product, design, and engineering teams to align on the strategic vision for our product roadmap.
• Architect Solutions: Thoughtfully decompose functional and technical requirements into clean architectures and designs.
• Create Engaging Experiences: Design and build delightful consumer-facing experiences that help customers understand their results and take action toward living healthier lives.
• API Design: Design APIs for cloud applications.
• Drive Excellence: Lead technical excellence through code and design reviews.
• Mentor and Lead: Mentor other engineers and contribute to the engineering culture.

What You'll Bring

• Educational Background: BS in Engineering or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 6 years of real-world, industry experience in building, delivering, and maintaining production-quality code.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Python or a similar language and a full-stack web application framework.
• Security Knowledge: Understanding of web security and cryptography concepts.
• Team Player: Ability to operate in a highly collaborative environment.
• Passion for Quality: Commitment to scalable, high-quality software and excellent user experiences.
• Leadership: Willingness to learn, lead, mentor, and take responsibility.

Work Environment

Pay Transparency

23andMe takes a market-based approach to pay, and amounts will vary depending on your geographic location. The salary range reflected here is for a candidate based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

San Francisco Bay Area Base Pay Range: $153,600—$230,400 USD
