About the Role

As an AI/ML Scientist at Optum, you will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to building innovative applications and products that leverage AI and machine learning to improve outcomes within the healthcare ecosystem. You will tackle complex, real-world problems with significant business impact, transforming real-world data into intelligent AI/ML-driven solutions that enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the healthcare system.

Key Responsibilities

• Innovate with AI/ML Technologies: Use AI/ML technologies to innovate current Optum operations, including intelligent revenue management, medical chart processing, and medical image processing.
• Collaborate with Business and Operations: Work closely with business and operations teams to understand and translate ambiguous business requirements into well-defined AI solutions.
• Develop and Deploy Models: Lead efforts in research, development, and deployment of cutting-edge AI/ML solutions, utilizing technologies such as NLP, deep learning models, and LLMs.
• Agile Environment: Thrive in an agile and fast-moving working environment, continuously learning and innovating with new AI technologies.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, Math/Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Bioinformatics, or other technical fields.
• 2+ years of experience in AI/ML development.
• Hands-on experience in building, deploying, and productionizing models.
• Proficient in Python or other programming languages.
• Experience with generative models, LLM, or multi-modal systems, preferably in healthcare applications.
• Experience developing models in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Strong communication skills to effectively convey analysis results.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. in a relevant technical field.
• Experience in building AI/ML applications in medical/healthcare domains.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to work in an evolving environment.
• Passionate about solving healthcare problems using AI technologies.
