Applied Science Manager, Campaign Measurement & Optimization

Job Description

The Campaign Measurement & Optimization (CMO) organization at Amazon is seeking an experienced Applied Science Manager to tackle one of the most challenging business problems in marketing measurement. This role involves developing cutting-edge machine learning models and working with a team of data scientists, applied scientists, research scientists, and economists to redefine marketing measurement at Amazon and its subsidiaries.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and coaching of a talented team, guiding them in the design and development of advanced measurement and optimization models.
• Collaborate with various business units, marketers, and software teams to address key challenges, such as measuring the incremental impact of multi-channel marketing portfolios and scaling measurement solutions for worldwide marketplaces.
• Develop systems to analyze marketing effectiveness, contributing billions of dollars to the business.
• Be a technical leader in applied science research with significant scope, impact, and high visibility.
• Lead strategic measurement science initiatives across various marketing teams, scaling experimentation and measurement science models, real-time inference, and cross-channel orchestration.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience managing scientists or machine learning engineers.
• Knowledge of machine learning, natural language processing, information retrieval, and analytics.
• Expertise in developing large-scale machine learning systems in a production environment.
• Proficiency in deep learning models and experience building production-level causal inference models.
• Expertise in major programming/scripting languages such as Python, Scala, or PySpark.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to address both technical and business audiences.
• Experience in coaching and reviewing the work of junior machine learning scientists and making great hiring decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business applications.
• Experience building complex software systems, especially involving deep learning, machine learning, and computer vision.
• Team building and science recruiting experience.
• Strong fundamentals in problem-solving, algorithm design, and complexity analysis.
• Proven track record of delivering machine learning models in production.

Compensation

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $165,500/year to $286,000/year, depending on market location and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon offers a total compensation package, including equity, sign-on payments, and a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
