Job Overview
PayPal is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Checkout Engineering team in Chicago. This role is pivotal in developing and delivering applications and services that power PayPal’s Checkout user experiences. You will collaborate closely with product, design, and analytics teams to understand user needs and deliver high-quality software solutions.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to a team of software engineers.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrate end-to-end ownership of features, projects, modules, and services.
- Lead design and implementation of client-side applications using Java, J2EE, and other relevant technologies.
- Contribute to architectural discussions and the overall technical direction.
- Optimize software performance and resolve bottlenecks.
- Implement critical non-functional requirements such as security, performance, and scalability.
- Collaborate with other teams for seamless integration and deployment of applications.
- Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding principles.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote a knowledge-sharing environment.
Qualifications
- 6+ years of professional experience in software development.
- Expertise in server-side languages like Java, C++, C#, Go, Python, Kotlin, or Ruby.
- Familiarity with database technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Bigtable.
- Experience building modern, resilient backend systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or collaboratively.
Work Environment
PayPal offers a balanced hybrid work model with 3 days in the office and 2 days of remote work, providing flexibility and convenience.
