Job Overview
As a Backend Software Engineer in the Digital Experience team at Tesla, you will be responsible for developing and supporting applications and systems that enhance Tesla's customer-facing website. This platform serves customers in over 60 countries, helping them understand and purchase Tesla's innovative products and track their orders through delivery. This role is ideal for a flexible, motivated self-starter with a strong desire to improve efficiency and scalability, making a direct impact on Tesla's mission to transition the world to sustainable energy.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Development: Design, develop, and support applications and systems under the team’s scope, including vehicle order processing, inventory vehicle purchasing, vehicle delivery experience, Tesla account login, software upgrades, and features accessible through the mobile app.
- Code Quality: Write clean, maintainable, performant, and well-tested code to implement new features and fix bugs. Write unit tests, integration tests, and work with QA to coordinate timely regression for new features.
- System Monitoring: Monitor live system metrics, respond to alerts, and troubleshoot production issues.
- Technical Improvements: Investigate and understand existing system technical functionality and propose technical improvements.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with Product, Design, and Business stakeholders to plan and prioritize new feature development. Communicate changes in project estimates, dependencies, and blockers with affected stakeholders quickly.
- Project Ownership: Own feature development and projects through design, development, testing, release, and production.
- Scalability and Maintainability: Understand and improve the scalability, maintainability, availability, and visibility of applications.
- Adaptability: Be flexible and quick to respond to changing business priorities and requirements.
- Documentation: Document newly implemented technologies and application functionality.
- Continuous Learning: Learn new technologies, practices, and business concepts to solve new problems as Tesla grows.
Required Skills and Experience
- Education: Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Technical Expertise: Expert knowledge of REST APIs, experience with microservices or service-oriented architecture, and experience with databases (either SQL or NoSQL).
- Testing Practices: Good unit testing and integration testing practices.
- Message Queue Architecture: Experience with message queue architecture.
- Programming Languages: Experience writing code in GoLang.
- Open Source Technologies: Working with open source technologies such as Kafka, Debezium, Elasticsearch, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Additional Knowledge: Knowledge of GraphQL, GRPC, React, or any other JavaScript frameworks.
- Development Process: Experience working in an Agile/SCRUM Software Development Process.

Compensation
The expected annual salary for this position ranges from €104,000 to €348,000, depending on level, with additional cash and stock awards and benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
