Job Overview
Tesla is seeking a skilled Data Engineer to join the Gigafactory Quality Team in Buffalo, New York. This role is pivotal in supporting Quality Engineering initiatives on-site, focusing on the automation of production controls, defect prediction, and advanced statistics. The successful candidate will automate data pipelines, maintain databases, and create live visualization tools to ensure quality assurance for Tesla Energy products.
Key Responsibilities
- Define requirements and validate manufacturing execution systems.
- Analyze manufacturing, equipment, and product field data to extract useful statistics and insights about failures.
- Work effectively with Engineers to conduct end-to-end analyses, from data requirement gathering to data processing and modeling.
- Monitor key product metrics and understand root causes of changes.
- Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques, and provide ongoing reports.
- Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets and depict the story via dashboards and reports.
- Maintain existing data visualizations, data pipelines, and dashboard enhancement requests.
- Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems to empower operational and exploratory analysis.
- Perform data quality validations to ensure data creation meets business needs and expectations.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Math, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- Extensive experience writing software with Python.
- Experience with multiple data architecture paradigms (e.g., SQL, NoSQL, Kafka, Spark).
- Experience and interest in frontend development, preferably with the JavaScript React framework.
- Knowledge of various data communication protocols (e.g., REST API, WebSocket).
- Ability to work under pressure while managing competing demands with tight deadlines.
- Experience with open-source machine learning libraries and frameworks (Tensorflow, Keras, etc.).
- Familiarity with continuous integration pipelines (Docker, Jenkins, Kubernetes).
- Ability to drive the introduction of predictive models to a production environment.
- Success in building and tuning image classification models.

Compensation
The expected annual salary for this position ranges from €68,000 to €219,300, depending on experience and level, plus cash and stock awards and benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
