Join Tesla's Design Exchange Team as a Senior Backend Software Engineer
About the Role
Tesla's Vehicle Engineering department is seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Software Engineer to join the Design Exchange team. This team is integral to managing the flow of mechanical, electrical, electronic, and manufacturing designs across Tesla and its supplier network. By providing a suite of APIs, the Design Exchange team ensures fast, reliable, and secure interfaces for downstream teams, eliminating the need for inefficient manual processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Individual Contribution: Work independently on new or existing projects with minimal guidance.
- Documentation: Write and review design documents for new services/features, refactors, technology choices, and process changes.
- Code Quality: Participate in code reviews, offering constructive feedback to improve code quality and maintainability.
- Incident Management: Participate in an on-call rotation, manage incidents as Incident Commander, and write actionable incident reports.
- Task Management: Manage tasks via Jira for observability and human capacity planning, maintaining excellent Jira hygiene.
- Hiring and Mentorship: Participate in hiring processes, conduct technical screens, and provide feedback. Mentor junior engineers in best practices and foster their professional growth.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with other teams to understand and address their needs.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proficiency in one or more general-purpose programming languages such as Golang, C++, or Java.
- Deep knowledge of distributed systems architecture and event streaming platforms.
- Strong understanding of REST and/or gRPC based APIs and microservice architecture.
- Experience with one or more database technologies.
- Familiarity with containerization and deployment configuration using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience in code reviews and providing constructive feedback.
- Ability to diagnose problems and incidents in multi-layered enterprise applications.

Compensation
The expected annual salary for this position ranges from €104,000 to €348,000, depending on experience and level. Additional compensation may include cash and stock awards.
Location
This position is based in Palo Alto, California, and requires on-site work.
