Job Description
About the Role
As a Full-Stack Engineer at Substack, you will be at the forefront of developing our core product platform. This role involves working on everything from frontend UI and testing to APIs, low-level services, and database operations. You will collaborate closely with designers, product thinkers, and directly with customers to build new product offerings and tools across the platform. This position is crucial in shaping the future of Substack's product development.
Responsibilities
- Develop the core Substack product for both readers and writers with the support of the engineering team.
- Engage in a dynamic organization with diverse needs, requiring the ability to quickly learn and add value across different product areas.
- Grow and learn engineering best practices through mentorship and collaboration with experienced engineers.
- Contribute to the entire product process, from concept and research to implementation and deployment, ensuring high-quality solutions.
- Work directly with customers to solve their problems, fostering empathy and improving product quality.
- Utilize technologies such as JavaScript, Node/Express, React, and Postgres. Familiarity with these technologies is beneficial, but we are also open to helping you learn.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years of professional front-end web software development experience using TypeScript and React.js.
- A degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience.
- Ability to work independently and autonomously, taking ownership of your work and leading initiatives.
- A passion for building elegant and delightful product experiences that allow writers to focus on their content.
- Enjoy collaboration with a diverse team, bringing your unique experience and background to the table.
- A belief in Substack's mission to create a better business model for writing.
