Join Substack as a Senior Software Engineer
Substack is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for developing the core Substack product for both readers and writers. This role involves working closely with designers, product thinkers, and customers to build new product offerings and tools across our platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop Core Products: Work with the engineering team to develop the core Substack product. This includes everything from frontend UI and testing to APIs, low-level services, and database operations.
- Mentorship and Best Practices: Grow and develop engineering best practices through close mentorship and collaboration with a team of engineers.
- Product Development: Contribute to the entire product process, from concept and research to implementation and deployment. You will own your work and deliver high-quality solutions.
- Customer Interaction: Work directly with customers to solve their problems. At Substack, everyone, including the CEO, participates in customer support to build empathy and improve our products.
Technologies We Use
- JavaScript: Especially Node/Express and React.
- Databases: Postgres.
Requirements
- Experience: 10+ years of experience building backend software for high-scale systems.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Skills: Ability to contribute across the full web stack, with a passion for certain technologies and systems.
- Independence: Must be independent and autonomous, capable of owning your work and leading projects.
- Collaboration: Enjoy working with a diverse group of thinkers and bringing your unique experience to the team.
