About the Role
Join Block as a Principal Software Engineer in the Product Server organization, a pivotal role in shaping the technical strategy and operational excellence of our backend services. This is a unique opportunity to influence a large-scale engineering team and drive impactful projects across various business verticals.
Responsibilities
- Technical Strategy: Develop and implement long-term technical strategies to standardize and enhance the efficiency of key production services.
- Leadership: Collaborate with senior engineers to set technical standards and make strategic technology choices.
- Team Influence: Mentor and guide a distributed team of engineers, fostering a culture of high-quality and high-velocity work.
- Project Management: Facilitate alignment across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines, working with various engineering disciplines.
- Hands-on Execution: Lead by example in solving critical incidents and projects when necessary.
Qualifications
- Experience: 15+ years in software engineering with a focus on high-performance distributed systems.
- Leadership: 5+ years in a technical leadership role, managing project teams and setting technical direction.
- Complex Projects: Experience in delivering large infrastructures or migrations with strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Technical Expertise: Proficiency in backend technologies such as Java, Kotlin, Ruby, PHP, and cloud platforms like AWS.
- Communication: Exceptional skills in communication, leadership, and influence.
