Senior Staff Software Engineer

About The Role

Matterport is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for building features and services for the Matterport Platform, which serves as the central hub for all Matterport products and services. Our platform handles billions of requests each month, so experience with building scalable services is essential. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, be adaptable, and possess exceptional personal drive. You should be comfortable working in an API-heavy, microservices environment. There is potential for this role to evolve into an engineering manager position.

What You Will Do

Lead the design, implementation, and deployment of new features and services.
Collaborate with a cross-functional team of product managers, designers, engineers, and QA.
Ensure proper monitoring and respond to issues in live environments.
Build APIs, backend services, and integrations that support our products.
Advocate for good engineering practices and produce maintainable, well-documented code.
Contribute to a learning culture and mentor junior engineers.
Work with relational and non-relational data stores.
Build features and services using server-side Kotlin, Python, and front-end technologies.
Drive multiple technical projects from start to finish.

Who You Are

BS in Computer Science or equivalent.
12+ years of experience designing and delivering features and services in a cloud environment.
Experience developing SaaS solutions using languages such as Python, Java, Go, or Kotlin.
Proficient with Linux, MySQL or PostgreSQL, and Git.
Exposure to non-relational data stores such as FoundationDB.
Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
Familiarity with UI frameworks such as React or Angular.
Experience with microservices and containers.
A solid track record of developing testable, maintainable code.
Ability to work well in an agile environment.
