Join Vartana as a Staff Software Engineer, Backend
Vartana is seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to join our backend team. As a key player in our engineering department, you will be responsible for developing the backend architecture and services that support our multiple backend applications. This role is crucial in building the next generation of our B2B Commerce platform, focusing on APIs and data models that drive innovative and embeddable experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and Design: Develop and operate our most critical and scalable services, including Underwriting, Servicing, Capital Marketplace, and Closing platform.
- Data Models: Construct and evolve complex data models used by various services.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work across teams to understand product requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver solutions with a strong customer focus.
- Code Quality: Write high-quality code and participate in code reviews, technical design, and problem-solving.
- System Management: Join on-call rotation, manage deployments, and monitor runtime metrics to identify and resolve code and environment issues.
- Best Practices: Advocate for and apply best practices regarding availability, scalability, operational excellence, observability, and cost management.
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership, influence fellow engineers, and mentor team members.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
- Experience: 8+ years in backend systems, with at least 5+ years in technical leadership roles.
- Technical Skills: Advanced knowledge in Ruby on Rails, Python, Java, or Go. Experience with NoSQL solutions, SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL), and caching technologies (e.g., Redis, Memcache).
- Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively and mentor peers.
- Industry Experience: Experience in B2B or the Payments/Finance/Fintech industry is a plus.
