About The Role

As a Staff Backend Engineer at Robin AI, you will lead the backend development in a product-focused squad. You will make key design and implementation decisions, writing high-quality, well-tested code that solves challenging problems. You will work closely with other teams and people, such as Product Managers and ML Research Engineers, to deliver great products. You will also mentor and coach junior engineers in the squad, ensuring best practices are being followed, and play a key role in the recruitment of other Backend engineers at Robin AI.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Backend development in a product-focused squad.
• Make key design and implementation decisions, writing high-quality, well-tested code.
• Work closely with Product Managers and ML Research Engineers.
• Mentor and coach junior engineers.
• Develop back-end services and GraphQL APIs using Django, Flask, and similar Python frameworks.
• Build and maintain the infrastructure our products and components are deployed to.
• Identify and prioritize tasks in conjunction with a Product Manager.

• Frontend: React and Apollo
• Backend: Python web frameworks such as Django and Flask
• Services and Libraries: Celery and Elasticsearch
• Cloud: AWS services including ECS, Lambda, and SQS
• CI/CD: CircleCI
• Infrastructure: Managed using Terraform

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with web-based languages (Python, Go, Node.js) and associated frameworks (e.g., Django, Flask).
• Background working in a start-up or similar size organization.
• In-depth understanding of the entire development process (design, development, and deployment).

• Salary: $180,000-$250,000

Work Environment

Robin AI offers a flexible work model, allowing employees to work from home 2/3 days per week. Our office in Lower Manhattan, New York, provides access to all WeWork amenities, including co-working space, bike lockers, pool tables, table tennis, free barista-made coffee, and free beer in the evenings.
