About the Role
As a Staff Software Engineer at Pinterest, you will be a key player in developing and enhancing our Big Data Query Platform. This platform is crucial for handling the vast amounts of data we manage, which is in the range of hundreds of petabytes. You will be working with cutting-edge technologies like Spark, Presto/Trino, and Iceberg to ensure our platform remains efficient, scalable, and easy to use.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and optimize our big data query infrastructure.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and meet their data needs.
- Lead technical projects and initiatives, ensuring they are completed successfully.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, sharing best practices and improving our overall architectural approach.
- Ensure the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of our data systems.
What We’re Looking For
- 6+ years of experience in building and supporting large scalable big data platforms.
- Extensive experience with big data query technologies such as Spark SQL or Presto/Trino.
- Proficiency in programming languages like Java, Scala, or Python.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a drive for innovation.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams.

Pinterest’s work model, PinFlex, offers flexibility in balancing work and personal life. This role is remote, allowing you to work from anywhere within the US.
Salary and Equity
The position offers a competitive salary range of $160,520 to $330,146 USD per year, along with eligibility for equity. Specific equity details are based on several factors including your experience and location.
