The Users, Listings and Marketplaces Data and AI Team at Airbnb is a vibrant group of machine learning, data, and analytics engineers dedicated to creating innovative data products for our Guests and Hosts. As part of the Guest and Host organization, you will contribute to the Airbnb web and native apps used by millions worldwide.

At Airbnb, Users, Listings, and Marketplaces are foundational, and the integrity of our data is crucial to our product and business success. We are expanding our Data Engineering team to enhance our data foundations and leverage our data and ML models more effectively. As a Staff Data Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our vision for reliable Marketplaces data, including aspects like pricing and availability across the company and our products.
Your responsibilities will include ensuring that all business and product areas have access to accurate marketplaces data to drive insights and innovation. You will be involved in identifying the right data sources, designing effective data models, and constructing robust and reliable data pipelines.
A Typical Day
In this role, you will experience significant growth and transformation in the data domain, with substantial investments in smarter products powered by Machine Learning. You will take ownership of critical data assets for Marketplaces and Competitive Intelligence, working autonomously and collaborating closely with product, business partners, and engineering teams to align on data and reporting requirements.
Your tasks will involve architecting and productionizing both batch and real-time data systems to support Airbnb products for Guests and Hosts, as well as our business and sales teams. You will ensure the quality, performance, and stability of these systems through comprehensive quality systems and monitoring, and tune, productionize, and optimize data systems to meet critical product and business needs.
Your Expertise
We are looking for candidates with at least 9 years of relevant industry experience, holding a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or 6+ years of experience with a PhD. You should have deep expertise in data modeling, SQL, and working with data at the petabyte scale, as well as excellent communication skills.
