Introduction to the Role
Join Shield AI as a Staff Software Engineer in our Task Group, where you will be pivotal in advancing our mission to protect service members and civilians with intelligent systems. This role is based in the Washington DC-Baltimore area, focusing on the development and deployment of our AI pilot, Hivemind, which has been tested on various aircraft and drones.
What You Will Do
- Research, design, and implement state-of-the-art planning algorithms from conception to field deployment.
- Optimize the planning stack on both CPU and GPU.
- Develop core systems that are portable and scalable across different UAS platforms and compute architectures.
- Collaborate with the Hivemind Design Software team to build infrastructure that supports local development and scales into the cloud.
- Work with soft or hard real-time operating systems and robotics middleware such as ROS and PX4.
- Engage in algorithm development, including graph search and sampling-based planning.
- Deploy our AI stack to edge devices and work with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Architect and maintain our cloud infrastructure, assist with cross-platform builds and test orchestration using tools like CMake, Bazel, gcc, and llvm.
Who You Are
- You hold a BS in computer science or a related engineering field with at least 4 years of professional experience.
- You are proficient with C++ (versions 11, 14, or 17) in a production environment.
- You have experience in a collaborative development environment, focused on continuous integration/delivery and test-driven development.
- You possess strong knowledge of modern software engineering practices and are familiar with writing thread-safe multi-threaded programs.
- You are skilled in using common debugging and profiling tools (e.g., gdb, valgrind), and are familiar with git, bash, and Python.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $189,887 - $284,831 per year.
