Backend Engineer, Algorithms

Job Overview

As a Backend Engineer specializing in algorithms at Quindar, you will play a crucial role in developing and integrating a software framework with various models and algorithms using Python and either C++ or Rust. You will collaborate closely with both software and aerospace engineers to implement a robust framework capable of supporting complex algorithms that must execute in production environments. While expertise in satellites is not required, experience with physics-based concepts is highly valuable.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and integrate software frameworks with various models and algorithms using Python and C++ or Rust.
• Collaborate with software and aerospace engineers to implement robust frameworks for complex algorithms.
• Work in a small agile software development team and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders such as satellite operators and other software engineers.
• Understand requirements, implement new features, and troubleshoot issues.
• Utilize strong knowledge of optimization methods, modeling and simulation, and software best practices to build scalable solutions.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in Python and either C++ or Rust.
• Experience developing software to model complex mathematical or physics-related concepts.
• Applied experience developing and validating algorithms for optimization, sensor fusion, or similar concepts.
• Strong knowledge of software performance optimization and best practices.
• Experience developing containerized applications and hosting in Kubernetes and/or cloud-native architectures.
• Preferred experience with AWS services such as Lambda, ECS, EKS, CloudWatch, S3, EFS/EBS, EC2, and RDS.
• Familiarity with Git and GitHub or similar version control frameworks.

Soft Skills

• Deep technical analysis and troubleshooting skills.
• Independent self-starter; able to complete projects on time with minimal guidance.
• High standard for software maintainability, quality, resilience, and performance.
• Strong cross-functional communication skills between frontend, backend engineers, and product managers.

Background Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of professional experience in backend development, modeling & simulation, or a related role.
• Professional experience can be replaced with a self-starter who has the drive, technical skills, and is obsessed with their product.
