Join Our Team as a Staff Data Engineer

Our Enterprise Data & Analytics (EDA) team at Zendesk is seeking an experienced Staff Data Engineer to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will work in a collaborative Agile environment, utilizing the latest engineering best practices and participating in all aspects of the software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Data Engineering Projects: You will lead data engineering projects at scale, working in a high-visibility role across multiple teams. You will establish engineering best practices and mentor other engineers in making technical decisions on projects.
• Project Management: Successfully plan and deliver complex, multi-team or system, long-term projects, including those with external dependencies.
• System Ownership: Own one or more large, mission-critical systems or multiple complex, team-level projects, overseeing all aspects from design through implementation and operation.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to research and brainstorm solutions for technical challenges.
• Analytics Solutions Design: Design and build end-to-end analytics solutions that provide practical insights into customer 360, finance, product, sales, and other key business domains.
• Mentorship: Mentor team members to help them grow in their technical responsibilities.
• Process Improvement: Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements, such as automating manual processes and optimizing data delivery.

Basic Qualifications

• 7+ years of production experience in Data Modeling and Data Architecture.
• 5+ years of data engineering experience building, working, and maintaining scalable data platforms.
• 3+ years of experience with Cloud columnar databases (Snowflake, Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, etc.).
• 2+ years of production experience working with dbt and designing and implementing Data Warehouse solutions.
• Experience with AWS or related technologies.
• Intermediate experience with programming languages such as Python, Go, Java, or Scala.
• Strong documentation skills for pipeline design and data flow diagrams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge in modern as well as classic Data Modeling techniques - Kimball, Inmon, etc.
• Experience writing ETL jobs to address various data engineering challenges.
• Experience working with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform.
