Development Intern
Overview
The California Budget & Policy Center is seeking a Development Intern to join our team in Sacramento, CA. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit development and fundraising, while supporting our mission to advance public policies that improve the lives of Californians.
Responsibilities
As a Development Intern, you will be an integral part of our development team, which consists of 2-3 staff members. Your primary responsibilities will include:
Data and CRM Management
- Update donor and funder data in our CRM, Salesforce, with confidentiality.
- Conduct regular audits of Salesforce to ensure optimal use.
- Build and maintain Salesforce campaigns, reports, and dashboards.
- Assist in creating a Salesforce usage manual with best practices.
Donor and Funder Research
- Research prospective donors and funders using tools like iWave.
- Develop a regular practice of prospective research.
- Support engagement with past and potential new donors and funders.
Year-End Appeal Campaign
- Assist with our annual year-end appeal (YEA) campaign, including donor list building and appeal drafting.
- Support with funder reports during the YEA campaign as needed.
Organizational Activities
- Contribute to the Budget Center's equity work.
- Assist with the development of our annual policy conference, Policy Insights.
- Support the initial stages of our 30th anniversary campaign.
Professional Development
- Learn about California state policy and budget processes.
- Gain insights into the history and structure of nonprofits and fundraising.
- Explore the Budget Center's main issue areas.
- Engage with staff on career development.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- A strong commitment to social, economic, and racial equity.
- Interest in public policy and nonprofit development.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
- Experience with CRMs like Salesforce is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- High school diploma required; a Bachelor's degree or prior experience in fundraising is helpful but not required.
Physical and Location Requirements
This role is primarily remote, but candidates should be based in a location allowing for occasional in-person attendance at our Sacramento office. Initial weekly visits for onboarding and at least twice a month visits are expected.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a temporary hourly non-exempt position with a salary of $23 - $26 per hour. Interns are provided with legally mandated benefits, including:
