Full Stack Software Engineer (Starlink)
About the Role
At SpaceX, we are leveraging our experience in building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world’s most advanced broadband internet system. Starlink is the world’s largest satellite constellation and is providing fast, reliable internet to over 3 million users worldwide. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system – from thousands of satellites to consumer receivers that allow users to connect within minutes of unboxing, and the software that brings it all together.
The Team
The Growth and Payments team within the Starlink consumer platform is responsible for building and maintaining the tools that enable the business to accelerate growth, facilitate the successful acquisition of customers to Starlink, and improve the customer experience. As a full-stack software engineer, you will work closely with both external stakeholders and internal partners across all engineering disciplines to launch new product offerings and rapidly expand Starlink into new markets.
Responsibilities
- Develop well-architected, responsive, and performant web applications.
- Design and implement highly available, fault-tolerant networks that operate for long periods with minimal maintenance at scale.
- Deliver expert-level JavaScript, HTML, and CSS code for modern browsers.
- Full stack application development using a .NET micro-service architecture running in Kubernetes and using Angular.js.
- Focus on continuous monitoring and alerting to foster data-driven business decisions and improve the quality and observability of our systems.
- Work closely with country growth managers and other partners to drive successful outcomes for the business.
- Collaborate with other engineering teams across Starlink to advance our engineering process in architecture, design, and code reviews.
- Deep dive into user problems to find and create efficient solutions.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a STEM discipline and 1+ years of experience building full-stack software; OR 3+ years of professional experience building full-stack software in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Programming experience in Python, C#, .NET, Go, Scala, Java, or similar object-oriented language.
- Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Front-end experience in Angular, React, or similar JavaScript framework.
- Database experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar database technologies.
- Experience with version control, continuous integration, and continuous delivery concepts.
- Expertise in profiling and improving application performance.
- Experience with build systems (Make, Bazel/Pants/Buck, Gradle) and package management tools (pip, npm).
- Strong attention to detail.
- Experience with UNIX-like operating systems and CI/CD tools.
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
Compensation and Benefits
- Software Engineer/Level I: $130,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year
- Software Engineer/Level II: $150,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience. Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You may also accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation & will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year. Exempt employees are eligible for 5 days of sick leave per year.
