Senior Data Scientist

Location: Denver, CO

Western Union is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join our Enterprise Risk and Compliance team. This role is pivotal in evolving our risk and compliance technology program, focusing on transaction monitoring, screening, reporting, and overall risk management. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will play a crucial role in integrating technology and innovation into our Financial Crimes risk mitigation and compliance programs.

Key Responsibilities

Develop a deep technical understanding of the Enterprise Risk and Compliance programs and systems.
Lead as a subject matter expert on data modeling and integration with core systems to manage financial crimes risk.
Support global program development in the data science arena.
Responsible for short, medium, and long-term planning and adapting to a highly diversified and changing environment.
Build relationships with internal stakeholders using expertise and technical aptitude.
Deliver end-to-end technical and advanced data analytics work.
Troubleshoot and optimize queries, using CTEs and temporary tables judiciously.
Weigh tradeoffs between SQL and Python libraries for ETL and data aggregation.
Leverage machine learning to identify potential fraud, money laundering, and other financial crimes.
Manage multiple projects and data requests in a timely manner.
Coordinate with team members to ensure system solutions meet business needs.
Query and analyze data to generate reports, analytics, and recommendations.
Document and manage audit-related processes and tasks.
Interact with other internal departments to formulate recommendations and actions.

Qualifications

Six plus years of relevant experience in financial services, payment services, or technology services organizations.
Proficiency with SQL is required, with Snowflake experience a plus.
Bachelor's degree required; Graduate degree preferred.
Ability to advise on complex technical and analytical challenges.
Understanding of retail/commercial financial products/services and banking and payments integration.
Proven track record of complex problem solving and decision-making ability.
Strong analytical, project management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills.
Knowledge of AML Compliance and experience with Snowpark is an advantage.
Strong understanding of Agile methodologies.
Effective communicator, both orally and written.
