Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Develop Low-Level Flight Software: Design and implement low-level software for microcontrollers, focusing on creating reusable device drivers and integrating system-level features.
• Hardware Integration: Develop hardware drivers to interface with various sensors, such as Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), and contribute to hardware-in-the-loop testing.
• Debugging and Troubleshooting: Quickly identify and resolve issues that span electrical, firmware, and software boundaries using tools like JTAG, SWD, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
• Collaboration: Work closely with the electrical engineering team to select microcontrollers and peripherals, and review schematics.

Required Qualifications

• Educational Background: BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
• Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in C for embedded systems, experience with real-time embedded software control systems, and familiarity with bus protocols such as USB, SPI, I2C, CAN, ARINC-825, RS232/485, and Ethernet.
• Experience: Demonstrated experience in developing embedded software for autonomous flight vehicles and integrating microcontrollers with analog and digital sensors.
• Travel: Willingness to travel approximately 50% to collaborate with the firmware team in Costa Mesa.
• Legal Requirements: U.S. Persons status is required due to access to export-controlled data.

Preferred Qualifications

• Flight Software Experience: Familiarity with flight software such as Ardupilot.
• Microcontroller Knowledge: Experience with microcontroller cores like ARM, AVR, MSP430, PIC, etc.
• Problem-Solving Attitude: A proactive approach to identifying and solving problems.
• Curiosity: A natural curiosity about the technologies and tools used in the role.
