Job Overview
Aether, a Y Combinator Start-Up currently participating in the YC Winter 2024 batch, is on a mission to develop a comprehensive AI-driven platform for the solar industry. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with extensive experience in building SaaS applications, ideally from the ground up. As a founding engineer, you will drive technical architecture and make critical technical decisions from day one. Our application involves computer vision, CAD, and financial applications, and experience in building and debugging complex models is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of our SaaS platform, focusing primarily on front-end development (80%) with occasional back-end tasks.
- Drive technical architecture and make key technical decisions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.
- Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.
- Identify and correct bottlenecks and fix bugs.
- Help maintain code quality, organization, and automation.
Qualifications

Required:
- 6+ years of experience in front-end engineering developing production-level code.
- Proficiency in JavaScript and React.
- At least 2 years of professional experience with Next.js and Node.js.
- At least 2 years of experience with Django for back-end development.
- Understanding of Docker and working with REST APIs for production apps.
- Ability to ensure components are functional, elegant, performant, and mobile-friendly.
- Fluent in English.

Preferred:
- Background in Engineering, Physics, Math, or Computer Science.
- Experience with Postgres and GCP.
- Knowledge of MongoDB and vector databases.
- Mathematical knowledge is beneficial for working with simulation products.
Location and Work Environment
This is not a remote role. You will need to be based out of Paris or willing to relocate to Paris for a hybrid in-office schedule. Exceptions are made for London applicants, who can commute to Paris once every two weeks.
Compensation and Contract
- You will start on a 3-month contract, with the potential to transition to full-time based on performance.
- Ideal candidates are EU-based and able to work in Paris.
