Position Summary

The Senior Network Software and Automation Architect will possess deep expertise in network engineering, software development, and automation. This role involves designing and implementing scalable network solutions, automating network deployment and operations, and leading architectural initiatives to provide solutions for business and stakeholder requirements within BOA Internal Networks.

Responsibilities

• Software Development: Lead the development of software solutions for network management and automation. Ensure high-quality, well-written, clean, efficient, and well-documented code within the team. Assist the team with debugging and troubleshooting software issues. Develop microservices, APIs, and service templates that define the services we provide to our customers.

• Systems Administration: Manage and maintain Linux servers and systems. Lead the team in routine system monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting. Ensure system security and compliance in line with BOA best practices. Effectively use Jira and Confluence to manage and document work.

• Automation and Scripting: Automate repetitive tasks and workflows using Python and shell scripts within a virtual environment. Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for deployment automation. Deploy code to our development, QA, Staging, and Production servers using our continuous integration and deployment pipeline platform. Test new services to ensure they function as expected using our testing framework, and add new test cases to the test suite to continuously improve our quality assurance bar. Develop and implement automation strategies for network configuration, monitoring, and management. Design and maintain scripts and tools to automate network tasks and workflows. Implement and manage network orchestration tools to streamline operations in conjunction with the BOA foundational automation team.

• Leadership and Collaboration: Lead code reviews and provide constructive feedback. Collaborate with DevOps engineers to streamline operations and processes. Participate where required in the team on-call rota to support application users. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand network requirements and translate them into technical solutions that can be explained to management and the team. Lead architectural discussions and decision-making processes related to network and automation. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including network engineers, DevOps engineers, and software developers. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior network architects and engineers.

• Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation for systems and processes. Document code and systems configurations.

• Continuous Improvement: Stay current with BOA technologies. Identify and recommend improvements to existing network systems and processes. Drive the adoption of new technologies and practices that enhance network deployment, upkeep, and reliability. Work across the business, operations, and technology to create the solution intent and architectural vision for complex solutions and prioritize functional and non-functional requirements into a technology backlog to enable the technology roadmap and functionality to support evolving capabilities and services. Contribute to the creation of the architecture roadmap of defined domains (Business, Application, Data, and Technology) in support of the product roadmap and the development of best practices including standardized templates. Clarify the architecture, assist with system design to support implementation, and provide solution options to resolve any architectural impediments. Facilitate solution-driven discussions, lead the design of complex architectures, and find creative solutions through knowledge of domain, practical experiments, and proof of concepts while ensuring architecture is flexible, modular, and adaptable. Educate team members on the technology practices, standardization strategies, and best practices to create innovative solutions. Support the team as needed to select the technology stack required for solutions and help select preferred technology products. Perform design and code reviews to ensure all non-functional requirements are sufficiently met (for example, security, performance, maintainability, scalability, usability, and reliability).

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Proven experience as a network architect or in a similar senior-level network engineering role (7+ years).
• Extensive experience with network automation tools and practices.
• Strong background in designing and implementing enterprise-level network solutions.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in network protocols, services, and standards (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, VLANs, VRF’s).
• Very strong proficiency in Python programming and Linux OS (Ubuntu, CentOS, etc.).
• Experience with network automation tools (e.g., Ansible).
• Familiarity with software-defined networking (SDN) (Arista CVP, Cisco ACI).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform).
