Role Overview
Benchling is on a mission to accelerate the pace of life sciences research and development. To achieve this, we develop a suite of tools that scientists use daily to address humanity's most pressing problems. The tools we create must be optimized to enhance scientists' efficiency in their work, spanning a broad spectrum of research, development, and manufacturing tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Own projects end-to-end, from initial design to prototype to large-scale rollout.
- Design, implement, and extend frontend frameworks and architecture. We operate one of the largest, richest React applications, supporting complex scientific analyses.
- Design and implement Backend for Frontend patterns supporting several complex scientific workflows.
- Build and implement tooling for efficient, frictionless local and remote development.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and peers in engineering to make Benchling a delightful place to develop software.
- Help rapidly scale our product and team. As a member of the engineering team, you'll be integral in maturing our tooling, best practices, engineering processes, and hiring.
Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in software engineering.
- Build software with a product-first approach, shipping code quickly and caring about the real-world impact of your work.
- Expertise with at least one web framework, preferably Node.js or Python.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to iterate based on feedback.
- Enjoy ownership and building key pieces of the product.
- Empathy for customers and curiosity about their challenges.
- Interest in learning more about life science (prior knowledge not required; desire to learn is a must).
- Willing to work onsite in our SF or Boston office 3 days a week.
