About the Role
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Developer Productivity team at Cruise. This role is pivotal in enhancing the productivity of our engineers by providing them with the tools and services necessary for efficient and effective software development. As a Staff Engineer, you will be responsible for identifying engineering pain points and developing solutions that are reliable, scalable, and maintainable.
Responsibilities
- Identify engineering pain points and propose, design, and implement solutions.
- Influence the team’s technical roadmap and evaluate new tools and technologies through proof of concepts (PoCs).
- Ship improvements to our autonomous vehicle (AV) development toolchains and services, impacting engineering productivity and core company metrics directly.
- Drive software engineering best practices within your team and across the company, creating tooling that encourages these practices.
- Guide the engineering culture on the team, balancing impact delivery and technical debt management.
- Mentor and grow engineers within the team and across the organization.
- Set examples for high levels of accountability and establish strong boundaries for external requests.
What You Must Have
- 7+ years of experience in designing, building, and operating production systems at scale in the cloud.
- Proficiency in Go, Python, or other production-scale languages.
- Strong understanding of Unix/Linux, SSH, and networking fundamentals.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and influence others.
- Passion for mentoring and growing junior developers.
- Enthusiasm for self-driving technology and its potential impact.
Bonus Points
- Experience with GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, and contributing to Open Source projects.
